Agriculture Productivity and Market Enhancement Project

The Republic of Zambia has received a Grant from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to finance the Agriculture Productivity and Market Enhancement Project (APMEP) in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL).

The sector goal of the Project is to contribute to economic growth and food security. The principal objectives are to contribute to economic growth and poverty reduction by enhancing food, income and nutrition security among participating households. The Project will benefit about 75,000 people of whom 45% are expected to be women. APMEP will be implemented in six districts, namely: Sinazongwe  and Gwembe in Southern       Province;

Chongwe and Rufunsa in Lusaka Province and Serenje and Chitambo in Central Province.

The project includes the following components:

Component I: Agriculture Production and Productivity

The Agriculture Production and Productivity component will focus on developing irrigation schemes, aquaculture infrastructure, crop diversification and intensification using mechanization and conservation farming and livestock development.

Component 2: Value Chain Development and Market Linkages

This component will promote agro-processing infrastructure, value chain development and establishment of agricultural market Centres and market linkages, rehabilitation of rural feeder roads and establishment of market information systems.

Component 3: Institutional Strengthening

The Institutional Strengthening component will support food and nutrition security, day to day management of Project activities and monitoring and evaluation.

Procurement of goods, works and services will be in accordance with the Rank’s Rules of Procedure for the Procurement of Goods and Works May 2008 version. Acquisition of the services of Consultants will follow the Bank’s Rules of Procedure for the Use of Consultants May 2008 version. Bidding documents are expected to be available by March, 2015.
